Our committee's review

With the precision of a true craftsman, Aurélien Chirat masterfully tames the steep slopes of Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, and Saint-Joseph, showcasing a rare level of skill. His deep understanding of these exceptional terroirs, combined with technical expertise, allows him to produce wines of remarkable precision and consistency, offering an unmatched balance of quality and value.

A perfectionist at heart, he has scaled back his vineyard holdings to just 8 hectares, focusing on extended aging with a final refinement in Stockinger oak foudres. This uncompromising approach has propelled the estate to new heights, earning it a prestigious star in the French wine guide RVF.

Discover the world of this exceptional winemaker through two standout Saint-Joseph wines—a delicious white and a red, a true favorite among our buyers, featured in the latest issue of our Racines magazine.

The 2023 Red Saint-Joseph Lieu-dit La Côte is a wine of true elegance, offering both finesse and energy with a perfectly balanced touch of spice. From the first impression, its purity is striking, with aromas of black pepper, violet, fresh fruit, and graphite. On the palate, it’s taut and lively, with vibrant tannins and refreshing balance. Notes of smoky minerality add complexity, while the velvety texture brings refinement to the overall structure. This dynamic and polished wine was selected as a top pick by our buyers for the Racines magazine and earned a 94/100 rating from the Selection Committee.

The 2023 White Saint-Joseph Chays d'Œuvre masterfully balances richness and tension. Composed of 60% Roussanne with Marsanne, it is aged in demi-muids and large oak casks, enhancing its depth and complexity. The nose is generous, revealing notes of honey and ripe fruit. On the palate, it delivers a broad, textured mouthfeel with a touch of richness and vibrant energy. Ample and dynamic, it maintains impressive freshness, offering balance and precision from start to finish. Best enjoyed over the next four years, it has been awarded a 92/100 rating by the Selection Committee.
